Happy 4th of July where we celebrate the Birth of our Nation and everything that went in to it becoming what it is today. Our history!! But what does that have to do with us as aging women? Do you remember feeling those first sparks of ideas and ambition? It starts when you are young, that spark that ignites you. It does not diminish with age……it grows. Maybe life got in the way and you forgot how that spark feels. But it is still there. Ready for you to tap into and be who you were always meant to be.
You have emerged from decades of growth, challenge and transformation. That spark has grown into something stronger and more complex. The trials of youth and middle age are refining – raising families, building careers, surviving loss and adapting to change making you who you are today. But you may have forgotten the feeling of that spark which has been growing within you through all of these things.
Do you think you missed your chance? Absolutely not! Reconnecting with that spark can be one of the most meaningful phases of your life. Instead think “What does this new season allow me to do with more freedom, wisdom and clarity?” Action brings clarity. Choose one small thing you dreamed of doing and commit to taking a small step in examining your possibilities.
Let me give you an example from my own personal life. When I was about ready to retire from the business world, I took one small step into a world I had never heard of before. It contained the components of earlier sparks I had in my life, such as fashion, writing and exploring aging. I had never heard the term Influencer before but once I learned what it was, I felt the spark. I figured out how to put a post on Instagram and started with that one small post.
If you’re surrounded by voices that say “Why bother?” find new voices that say “Why not?” Embrace being a beginner again! Start a notebook, a private blog, or even voice memos where you can store the goals and inspirations as they return.
Let this 4th of July be your new beginning. Look for the sparks within you.
