Refuse to Be Influenced
Refuse to be influenced! That is not easy to do. We are influenced from the moment we are born. We are influenced by our parents who love us and try to protect and teach us what we need to know to live a good life. We are influenced by our teachers who set expectations and goals for us. We are influenced by our friends. We are influenced by every book we read, every TV show we watch. So how can we possibly refuse to be influenced? I don’t think that we can. We are all little pieces of each other as we develop through life. We learn from each other, we help each other, we exchange opinions. All of this has an influence on us.
I do not like the social media title “Influencer”! When I am writing this blog, or posting on social media, it feels more like sharing. Whether it is my mistakes, my failures, my thoughts or ideas. My purpose for getting involved in social media is to be in some small way part of the dialogue regarding aging! But here is where it gets tricky because I do want to influence you…….to look at aging differently and to look at yourselves differently. I want to influence you to find the joy in every year no matter how old you are. We all need a little help sometimes when the world closes in on us. We all need to be positive influences on each other. We need to help each other look past our outdated thoughts and see things with new perspectives.
Like it or not we are and have always been influenced. It is not a matter of whether influencing is right or wrong It would be impossible not to be influenced. But you have to know what influences are right for you. Nothing in this world is one size fits all.
