Aging With Style
What qualifies as Successful Aging with Style? It has a lot to do with how we age. As human beings, we want to continue to grow. We don’t want to become stagnant and just exist. But many women stop living their own life as they age and begin living through their children and their grandchildren. They think that their best times are over and stop looking for themselves in their everyday lives. They lose their engagement with life.
Why does this happen? I believe it is because society makes older women feel that they are less than they used to be. That they are fading from relevancy. But we can’t put the whole blame on society. We have to be participants in our own lives by looking ahead and saying, “How do I see myself in my 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and beyond?” “Who do I want to be?” “What image do I want to project?”
When you talk about a woman’s style, you are talking about so much more than just the clothes she wears. Style is an expression of individuality that permeates various aspects of your life. How someone carries themselves, their posture, their mannerisms, and their overall presence contribute significantly to their style and to how they age. Confidence, grace, and a sense of self-assurance are often key components and available to every woman to craft into her own unique style. But to do this, a woman has to be actively engaged in living her life and aging on her own terms.
Every person’s style is different. For instance, someone who enjoys the outdoors might have a more rugged and practical style. A person who enjoys the arts and fashion might have an entirely different style. The important thing is to still be engaged in living life in whatever style lets the world see who you are. As people age, life transitions can lead to a sense of lost identity. Staying true to oneself helps maintain a strong sense of self-worth and purpose. While loving one’s family is important, having your own interests allows for richer intergenerational connection.
Aging is changing, but to enjoy your life as you age, you must continue to engage in it. Every day is a chance to age with style. Find yourself in your everyday life and find the things that make you happy. Then you will truly be aging with style.
